Endoscopic scissors are used in a number of laparoscopic procedures.Endoscopic scissors are a type of surgical scissor used in many laparoscopic medical procedures for tissue dissection and transaction. Endoscopic scissors are available in many configurations, including bent, curved, hooked, large, small, and straight to give the surgeon a wide range of options to choose from when planning a surgical cutting strategy. The traditional "Mayo" scissors are heavy-duty scissors and the "Metzenbaum" scissors are smaller, finer-edged scissors, designed for open procedures. A hooked scissor is used for dissecting and transecting and many other custom shapes are available. Another advancement in the use of scissors in endoscopic surgeries has been the introduction of monopolar and bipolar scissor technology. Many improved outcomes have been made available to the patient through clever micro-scissor design in new MIS devices. Our flexible manufacturing process enables device designers to fully leverage all of their possible scissor ideas. When superior cutting or piercing performance is required for a device to be a functional success, we are the partner of choice.

Surgical Scissors

- Valued for a strength and dual-edge design not found with traditional blades and scalpels, surgical scissors are an essential tool in any surgical procedure. Variations of surgical scissors include different blade and handle lengths, blunt or sharp ended scissor blades, curved or straight tips as well as serrated and straight-edged blades. With Cadence's development and technology, as well as the company's devotion to client specifications, all blade types and lengths are possible.

Although little has changed in their basic function and design, there have been recent breakthroughs in the materials used to make surgical scissors. In addition to variations of traditional stainless steel, titanium, valued for its biocompatibility and resistance to corrosion, is also an option. Cadence also offers a variety of cutting blade coatings such as PTFE and silicone for further durability and corrosion resistance.

The Cadence Difference in Surgical Scissors

- Cadence's position at the forefront of medical instrument production for minimally invasive surgeries is evident in its manufacturing of surgical scissors. Unlike traditional surgical scissors that are large and cumbersome, Cadence has developed micro-scissors for endoscopic surgeries and procedures. With razor-sharp blades, Cadence surgical scissors can be used where other scissors just don't cut it.

Using a proprietary and unique sharpening process known as CNC sharpening, Cadence has been able to create precision surgical scissors that are more efficient than traditional scissors. This results in smoother surfaces and sharper edges.

Surgical Steel Scissors

- Adapting a technique designed to create the precise cutting edges of razor blades, Cadence has developed a market-leading process to manufacture surgical steel scissors. Because of the special attention to blade strength and sharpness that surgical scissors demand, Cadence has worked within its own IncisionLab™to create steel scissors that can be used in minimally invasive surgery procedures as well as in traditional open surgeries.

Scissors are used for delicately cutting tissue in surgical procedures, and surgeons can't afford instruments that aren't durable, corrosion-resistant, and--most importantly--sharp. Manufacturing scissors from a selection of austenitic stainless steels allows Cadence to best match the product with the client. These varying degrees of steel determine the flexibility and shock resistance of steel scissors and can be customized to the specifications of the customer.

Surgical Steel Scissors on the Job

 - Cadence products are used in multiple medical environments that include orthopedic surgery. In addition to the cutting blades and other incision instruments that Cadence specializes in, surgical scissors are used in orthopedic procedures as well. Essential to sports medicine, laparoscopic and arthroscopic procedures and joint repair and reconstruction, surgical steel scissors from Cadence are found in operating rooms everywhere.

The procedures which make these fields of medicine so specialized vary from minimally invasive surgeries that need the most delicate instruments to standard procedures that demand strength and durability. These orthopedic surgeries include ligament repair procedures such as ACL surgeries, rotator cuff repair and hip, wrist, elbow, shoulder and other joint-related medical procedures.

Endoscopic scissor complaints eliminated through application of new edge finishing process invented by Cadence

- Due to the fast pace of new medical device development, true optimized cutting performance is usually either a total afterthought or only brought to the attention of the design team after initial functional failures in testing. During a recent product launch, Cadence was contacted for guidance relating to poor cutting performance in a new medical device. Following in-depth analysis in our IncisionLab™of current blades, it became apparent that the cutting edge was simply not sharp enough to perform the task.

A review of the current manufacturing process revealed that the cutting edges were being generated on a grinder at a local stamping company. This process generated a large amount of burr that was being only partially removed during a manual buffing process, done as a secondary operation.

Cadence produced a lot of specialty blades utilizing its proprietary CNC sharpening processes in concert with the IncisionLab™. The functional results of more precise cutting edges were dramatic! The problems associated with cutting were totally eliminated along with the concerns about product consistency. An added benefit to this solution was a lower total cost to the medical device OEM due to the reduction of scrap and the elimination of a secondary deburring process.
